friday...Swirlydoos October Kit Layout #5

Happy Friday and 1st of November! November is so hectic for us since my hubby and my cousin's birthdays are on the 7th and my brother-in-law's birthday and my birthday is on the 8th! This month, we also have my mother-in-law's birthday and my little cousin's birthday and to top it off, Thanksgiving is also this month! Do you also have one of those months that are so hectic you feel like you barely have time to take a deep breath!?

Well, anyway, let me not get ahead of myself! Today I'm sharing a masculine layout that I made using the Swirlydoos October Kit, The Sweetest Thing.

The picture is of my hubby with his cowboy hat earlier this year. He was in a good mood so I took advantage and took a few pictures!

It has been a while since I've shared a new sketch so, here's a brand new sketch from me!

Here are some close ups of my work:

To pull off a masculine layout with this kit, i first pulled all the neutral papers and embellies aside so I could choose what I wanted to use. I used the distressed wooden pattern paper as the background because that screamed masculine to me. I distressed all the layers of papers and used burlap and corrugated cardboard to add a bit more ruggedness to my layout.

Of course, i had to use flowers on my layout but I used these neutral, distressed flowers with a pop of the yellow flowers for added color as my embellies. I also added some distressed leaves as well.

Here's a close up of one of the corrugated cardboard that I added to the layout. I painted it with white acrylic paint and distressed it with Vintage Photo distress ink.

These little chipboard pieces are the leftovers from the birdcages. I inked them and added them to the layout to look like chevron arrows.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a wonderful weekend!

tuesday...ScrapThat! August Kit-Layout #1

Good morning everyone! Today I want to share my first layout using the Scrapthat! August Kit "Days to Remember". This layout is based on my August Sketch for Scrapthat!.

Here's the sketch:

and here is my take on it:

"US" layout

This kit is absolutely gorgeous! It was my first time working with Maja Designs papers and I have to say that i loved it! The paper is really thick and soft and feminine. At first, all the purple threw me off but because it's a light purple, i was able to work with it just fine!

I used the Main Kit Only for this layout. Picture is of my hubby and I at the park where we got married 1.5 yrs after our wedding.

Included in the kit are a bunch of already die cut kraft colored butterflies. I LOVE the fact that they are kraft colored so I only inked mine around the edges slightly and added a purple flower to its center and use it on my layout like that.
The circles included are so luscious looking! I used them for my background and added different size pearls to each center. I wanted this layout to be soft and pretty (sorry babe!).

The lace included is amazing! I added it as one of my layers under my photo. The alphas are very neutral so they go with this kit wonderfully. You can alter them (color, ink, mist, etc) to match your photo. I opted for a light inking around the edges and two purple pearls on the U.

I love the sweet flowers included in this kit! I added some stickles to them and die cut a few leaves to match my outdoorsy photo and formed a cluster with them. The little own is too cute as well!

Here's a better view of the flower cluster. I handmade the white bloom with the petals included in the kit. Come back later this month and I'll share with you how I made it!It's really easy and it looks store bought! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I hope you have a great weekend! :)

friday...ScrapThat! August "Days To Remember" Kit Reveal/Blog Hop

Welcome to our August Kit Reveal and Blog Hop !

If you lose your way, here is the order:
We are so blessed to have the sweet and uber-talented,
Lisa Gregory
as our Guest DT for August!

Hi, My name is Lisa and by profession I am a registered nurse. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 children who are now successful young adults.  I have been a crafter my whole life. Back in 2005, when my son was doing his senior project with his girlfriend (who is now his wife) They were creating a scrapbook of their lives. They elicited my help as I was the crafty one. I found Scrapbook.com and saw the kind of scrap booking the artists did. I was amazed at the styles. It just wasn't cut and paste and stickers. It was 3 dimensional, it was gorgeous, and oh so inspiring. So I created a gallery, created my first layout and the rest is history. My style has changed a bit throughout the years, but playing with and scissors is still so therapeutic for me. I am honored and excited to be Guest Designing for Scrap That for the month of August.

Stop by Lisa's Blog
to see her gorgeous work.

We are also excited to introduce a new addition to our DT-
