friday..."By the Sea" layout

Happy Friday everyone! It's a hot and sunny Friday here in Orlando, Fl perfect for a lounge day by the pool!

Speaking of water, today I have a beach layout to share with you. I made this layout for Vicky's Swirlydoos August Technique Challenge where she challenged us to use two techniques that we have never used before.

The picture was taken back in 1996 by my dad and it's a picture of my little brother (5 yrs old) and I (12 yrs old) at Key West, Fl. We had just arrived from Cuba and it was the first he had taken us to the beach in the US. I enhanced the picture to make it look a bit vintage and by doing so the blue of the water turned turquoise, which I loved! So, I used this color as my accent color (butterflies, paint splashes).

For this layout I tried my hand for the first time at bubble wrap painting as well as a white wash under the picture and circle paint prints. I can't believe that I've never tried these techniques before! I got inky and distressy with this layout and I ended up with paint and ink on my hands and under my nails-it was fun!

I pulled a bunch of different supplies and manufacturers for this layout. I didn't care what I used as long as it looked good together! I used Recollections and Petaloo flowers, Prima buttons, Dusty Attic chipboard, twine from Walmart (jewelry department), cheese cloth, cardboard, etc.

I added some homemade gesso to my chipboard and some fuzzy cut greenery as well as a Dusty Attic chippy to my page.

I tried to make the paint drips that are so popular now in the scrappy world and failed miserably! I almost tossed the background paper at this point! However, i didn't and started layering over it and now I love how they look! They are by no means perfect but they provide the pop of color in that corner that I wanted!

Here's a side view of the layout. I love all the depth and dimensions and texture that I achieved with this one!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking your time to leave me a comment! I really appreciate it!
have a great weekend!
