tuesday...OWH father's day card set

Hi bloggers! I'm back from our Miami vacation. We had a great time despite the fact that I got horrible sunburn and hubby got seasick-all during our second day there! We did end up enjoying ourselves for the rest of the trip and had a great time spending time with our friends and family.

Do you remember my post last week about Operation Write Home? Well, I worked with the same sketch and OSW diagram to make another batch of cards for them, this time, for Father's Day.

Here's my sketch inspiration:167

and my quick OSW diagram, in case you are interested:

and here is my 8 cards set from this One Sheet Wonder design:

I think I'm in love with OSW, specially when paired with Heartfelt Creations papers, stamps and dies! It took no more than 1 hr to complete this 8 card set! I used the newest collection by Heartfelt Creations-The Balmy Breeze Collection, which is just perfect for masculine cards and scrapbook pages.

Here are some close ups of the cards:

I kept this set pretty simple as I feel masculine cards should be (plus, these cards have to be less than 1/4" thick for our heroes oversea to send back to their loved ones). I printed the sentiment on a cream colored Recollections cardstock, die cut around the sentiment, leaving some space for the stamp in the bottom right corner, and then stamped my ship image. I then lightly inked around the embossed image to give it a lightly aged look. i pop dotted it and added a button on the left. I added faux stitching around the edges and added a piece of brown ribbon to add texture.

monday...OWH masculine card set

Hi there again! I have a very special post for you. Some time back (about a month now?) I found out about Operation Write Home. They are a wonderful group of card makers that provide our troops with handmade cards for them to keep in touch with loved ones and I thought it was a wonderful idea! I do not have anyone in the military but I truly respect the military for what they do. You see, I wasn't born in the US and I feel it's a privilege for me to be living here without any worries about my safety. For that, I'm truly grateful.

So, since finding them, I've been thinking and planning on putting together a few cards to help this wonderful group out but it wasn't until yesterday that I finally started. I'm a scrapbooker first and a cardmaker second and simple cards are hard for me. My cards tend to look like mini scrapbooks-and I like them that way! However, for OWH, the cards are required to be less than 1/4 in thick. This in itself is a challenge for me! SO I started planning on working with one of their wonderful sketches and try to make some cards. I ended up making a OSW (one sheet wonder) with 8 finished cards!

Here's my sketch inspiration:167

and my quick OSW diagram, in case you are interesting:

They all follow the same basic design of the sketch but if you know me, you know I can't make 8 cards with all the same design-they have to be at least a little bit different! :)

Here's a close up of one of the cards. I used Heartfelt Creations papers, stamps and dies for this set.

Another close up of a card.

Close up of my handmade button. I used a Cuttlebug Alpha (Baby Face) set that came with a button die. I die cut a thicker layer and a cardstock layer. I then stamped Heartfelt Creations wood background stamp randomly over them and inked their edges. I layered them and added Diamond Glaze. After they dried, I added some black twine and added them to my card.

I stamped a simple sentiment on the inside.

I meant for this set to me a Father's Day set but I decided against it (or at least to have it say 'father's day' on it) last minute. I figured something like this can be used for Father's Day but also as any masculine greeting as well. I did make a specific Father's Day set but I can't show it yet because I used the newest Heartfelt Creations collection that debuts this Wednesday! :)
